THIS audio file was created for a unit on Arthur Miller's play The Crucible. Ostensibly about the Salem witch hunt, the play is actually Miller's condemnation of the McCarthy Red Scare and the American people who blindly followed his deluded lead. In this audio file you hear a desolate, windy plain with a sheep herd that "baas" in agreement as it hears McCarthy's speach about Communists infiltrating our country. Miller's hope, and mine, was that people would think for themselves and free themselves of the dangers of the herd.
