THIS assignment was a whole lot of fun. I worked with the class--all of us equals--to create an anthology of favorite French popular music. Through collaboration we found music that no one student would have been able to find, and the whole was, once again, greater than the sum of its parts. 

Collaboration is one of the key ideas of the new millennium. As I continue to use blogs with my students, I see that assignments like this one will branch out to ever-widening circles, so that what is now a collection of favorites from a class, tomorrow it could be a collection for the entire French department, then the state, the  country, and the world. The Internet has given us the opportunity to collaborate with all and to make our mark felt on the world.
